In February 2016, sitting in my bedroom as a broke college grad, I had no idea that I was about to start a business. I had learned how to make jewelry a couple years before so that I could make meaningful Christmas gifts for my friends and family. I thought it might be fun to make a few things to sell on Etsy as well. One thing led to another and I found that many of my favorite fandoms didn’t have lots of merchandise. There were quotes and lyrics that meant a lot to me, and I thought they should be put on jewelry. It turns out, they were meaningful to other people as well. Before I knew it, my little hobby turned into my full-time job. I run my business from my home and I still can’t believe it.
I originally named my shop FandomStamped because I specialized in fandom-inspired hand-stamped jewelry. While I definitely still do that, my creations have expanded since then. In 2018, I changed my shop name to Lilyfield; a name that is meaningful to me, yet vague enough to sell whatever I end up creating.
The name Lilyfield is inspired by a couple of things. My name is Suzanna which means Lily of the Valley. In scripture, Jesus talks about how we shouldn’t worry about anything because our Heavenly Father will take care of us. He tells us to look at the lilies of the field; they don’t worry or work hard trying to survive, yet God dresses them beautifully. This is the philosophy I want to build my business on. Hustle, yes. Ooh, yes. But worry and be anxious and toil and rely completely on myself? Absolutely not. The name Lilyfield is a reminder to me that above all else, no matter what happens, God will take care of me. I can work my tail off all I want, but ultimately it’s all in his hands.
My jewelry and creations are carefully made my hand and none of them are perfect. I love that. Things don’t have to be perfect to be beautiful. The same is true for people. I hope that you find beauty in my creations and realize that you are beautifully created too.
God bless,
Suz
